Welcome to Hillside Elementary!
Mrs. Mary Fitzgerald
Hillside School is home to 327 students in Grades Pre-K-4, and 50 staff members each school day.
In an effort to educate the "whole child," our staff has developed new techniques in meeting the special instructional needs of all students while building student self esteem. Pupil motivation, enrichment and appreciation of all cultures and the development of the full potential of critical thinking are areas of concentration for our staff members.
At the Hillside School, in addition to educational programming, emphasis is placed on social growth through community involvement and commitment. Some of the worthwhile projects included, collecting food for a local food bank and Toys for Tots, and contributing to the Ronald McDonald House.

At its regular monthly meeting on May 24, the Mount Laurel Board of Education accepted Mrs. Mary Fitzgerald’s letter of retirement as principal of the Hillside Elementary School, effective August 1, 2016. Mrs. Fitzgerald’s 13-year history as Hillside’s Principal and her many contributions will continue to have a lasting impact on the education of our children well into the future.
As we move forward in the process of selecting a new principal, I want you to know that we understand the important leadership role of the Principal when it comes to enhancing student achievement, the instructional program, and learning. The Principal is crucial in the lives of our students and staff, and helps establish the school’s climate.
We now have begun the search for Hillside’s new principal and are finalizing details for the selection process. That will include parent, staff and community input via survey to solicit your opinions on Hillside’s needs and the unique qualities candidates should be prepared to bring to the job. Please participate in the survey via this link.
I will update you on the progress of the search over the summer and other matters as they develop. Please be assured that our emphasis during this time of transition will continue to be the educational success of our Hillside students and staff.
